ATP TAKEAWAY: Employee seminars, hosted by ATP, can help generate interest among your employees for different commuting options. Giving Millennials more than one commuting option will help keep Arlington County an attractive business and career destination.

Only 2 days to go until our Champions Ceremony on Wednesday! The ATP staff has been hard at work prepping for the event over the last few days, and we’re finally in the home stretch. We are very excited for all of our Champions to be recognized and to see the accomplishments of other award winners for 2014.

For one of our final countdown spotlights, we are highlighting Silver Level Employer Champion – Ashoka.

The global non-profit, headquartered in Rosslyn, focuses on “social entrepreneurship” and provides resources to encourage problem-solving and change in communities throughout the world. The organization employs about 100 people, many of which live within 4 miles of the office. This information, which was based on a zip code density map created by ATP, has prompted Ashoka to further promote their company transportation benefits and provide more opportunities for employees to learn about all nearby commute options.

Some of the programs that Ashoka offers to improve employee commutes and encourage wellness among the staff include a pre-tax commuter benefit for use on public transit, an informal telework program, participation in National Walk at Lunch Day, and distribution of transportation materials such as maps, brochures and customized “Quick Glance” sheets. Ashoka also partnered with ATP and BikeArlington to hold 2 employee seminars last summer on biking commuting, which garnered significant interest among employees. Finally, the organization surveyed employees last Spring, asking questions about their commuting habits and thoughts on how Ashoka could improve their trip to and from work.

With a staff of mostly Millennials, Ashoka understands the desire to travel without a car and the appeal of more than one transportation option. Through their overall mission, as well as their benefit programs and central location, the non-profit organization has been able to consistently attract and retain top talent.

Champions 2015
Even though Champions 2014 has come to a close, ATP is already looking to honor even more Champions in 2015! Champions is a 1-year program with an informal re-enrollment process. Simply put, your rep will contact you to confirm you’d like to participate again. Silver Level companies like Ashoka will simply continue to receive their earned recognition and invitations to special Champion events as we move into 2015.
