What's in a name?

March 15, 2012

survey blog imageJuliet from Shakespeare?  No. It’s Metro who has in partnership with Fairfax county launched an online survey to collect public input on station names for the new Silver Line. This new line will extend Metrorail service to Dulles International Airport and Loudoun County through the Tysons Corner, Reston, and Herndon areas of Fairfax County, Virginia.

So why should you be interested? A station name not only is a word or term used for identification but would help riders plan their trips and navigate efficiently throughout the region.  Some of the considerations for transit names are the length of the name, number of words in a name, names containing a local point of interest within walking distance, how will the name appear on a map etc. Take the survey and make your voice count.  Last date for the survey is March 21st, 2012.

Did You Know?

The more a teenager's family rides Arlington County mass transit, the more that teen is likely to use it (and vice-versa).
